Petar Hranuelli
BIOGRAPHY
Petar Hranuelli (b. 1975, Supetar, Croatia) is a contemporary sculptor whose practice is grounded in a sustained investigation of form through a direct engagement with material, with stone occupying a central position in his work.
He spent his formative years on the island of Brač, an environment that continues to inform his understanding of material, space, and the continuity of sculptural tradition. Since 1994, Hranuelli has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, presenting over seventy solo exhibitions and more than one hundred and thirty group exhibitions. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for sculpture, including distinctions at international biennials and curated exhibitions of contemporary art. His work is characterized by a reduced yet highly articulated formal language, focused on the relationship between mass, movement, and internal tension. His sculptures emerge through a process in which material is not treated as a passive medium, but as an active agent that defines both the direction and the limits of the work. Hranuelli’s works are held in museum collections, galleries, and significant private collections across Europe and beyond, including Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States. His work has been discussed by prominent art critics and historians, affirming his position within the contemporary sculptural field. He has been a member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU) since 2006. He lives and works in Zagreb.
