Davor Dmitrović
BIOGRAPHY
Davor Dmitrović (1989) is a visual artist whose work merges figuration, narrative, and contemporary symbolism. After three years of studying philosophy, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he graduated in 2019 from the Department of Printmaking under Professor Josip Baće.
During his studies, he spent a semester at the Art Academy in Riga, Latvia. In 2019, he began doctoral studies at the China Art Academy in Hangzhou but temporarily suspended them due to the pandemic. During his time in China, he successfully passed the HSK 4 Chinese language proficiency test. In 2023, he was invited to return to Hangzhou to resume his PhD, which he did, but due to personal reasons, he returned to Croatia, where he continues to develop his artistic projects. With the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture, he has produced two major painting series that have been exhibited in Croatia and abroad. Dmitrović’s practice explores the concept of growing up—not only as a personal experience but also as a social and ethical transition. Through motifs drawn from fairy tales, myths, and everyday life, his paintings examine the responsibility of the individual toward society and that of society toward the individual. His robust figures and scenes are infused with humor, irony, and layers of meaning that oscillate between childhood and maturity, the real and the fantastical, play and responsibility. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe and China, and his works are included in private collections in Europe and the United States. He collaborates exclusively with Aleksić Gallery, and lives and works between Zagreb and Belgrade.
